AVIAN supports local rescue in annual event

Each year, AVIAN employees support a cause that is close to their hearts, The Lucky Puppy Rescue located about an hour north of Panama City.

On March 13, The Lucky Puppy Rescue (LPR) held their annual event, The Spay-ghetti Dinner, to raise money to support the more than 200 rescue dogs currently living on their farm. 13 AVIAN employees showed their support for the LPR including the CHRO, Randy Carr.

Vicky Perkins, a program manager at AVIAN, has volunteered at the LPR for over ten years. Vicky has organized their biggest fundraising event for six of those ten years, but this year decided to pass the torch to someone new. Not only has Vicky done an outstanding job raising money for the rescue, but she also fosters animals who need a temporary home.

“Watching a dog get adopted is like being dealt the perfect hand in a game of Blackjack,” Perkins said.

Alongside Vicky was Ann Patterson, an AVIAN employee who single handedly crafted over 100 baskets for the LPR raffle. Despite the pandemic, the LPR Spay-ghetti Dinner raised $40,000 which allows them to offer spaying and neutering to the rescue animals to reduce the rescue population. That is $8,000 more than they raised in 2020.

About The Lucky Puppy Rescue

The LPR adventure began in 2008 with a charter to "change the luck of rescue dogs forever." The rescue works with Holmes County, other shelters and rescue groups to restore the health of the dogs before finding them their fur-ever homes. They provide veterinary care, spaying and neutering, tend to the dog’s emotional needs and work on socialization and other tools to prepare them for adoption.

A typical day at the LPR starts with a long walk along the trails of the 125-acre farm where dogs are unleashed and able to sniff about. And, of course, a splash in the pond. The farm, located in Bonifay, Florida, is home to over 1000 dogs a year.
