LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – AVIAN LLC will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross (ARC) on Friday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its Lexington Park, Maryland headquarters building.
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
“Our partnership with the ARC is strong,” said Kevin Switick, an owner and president of AVIAN. “We plan to host two blood drive event this year and more in the coming years. Donations received at our event, and others like ours, will increase the availability of life-saving blood needed in the many emergency situations each day.”
AVIAN and the Red Cross urge community members to donate blood and help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs.
Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
